Property Insurance - Interesting Ways To Lower Your Rate
By Aaron Stone
1. People seem to take more precaution against fire than
water damage by not checking their plumbing and upgrading as often as they
should. The fact that the most common type of claim on a homeowner's insurance
policy is water damage should tell you something.
Therefore, taking steps to reduce your risk of water
damage will lower your home insurance premium. And don't forget to tell your
agent if you upgrade your plumbing to modern standards.
2. If you strengthen your roof you'll get lower home
insurance rates. This is particularly true if you live in the East where high
winds are a serious threat. Your agent should be able to outline steps that you
should take if you want a discount this way.
3. It will cost you extra to get adequate coverage if
you buy a home in certain areas that require special insurance. To give you an
idea, expect to spend an additional $400 for flood insurance for a home in a
flood-prone region.
You certainly know that no mortgagor will let you stay
without such where you need it. And even if you've paid off your mortgage,
you'll not feel comfortable to know that you've not given yourself protection
from a peril that has a high chance of occurring.
This kind of additional expense can be avoided if you
take the time to find out if the area you want to buy your home needs special
insurance.
4. You can get lower quotes today by visiting a minimum
of three quotes sites. Each site will require about 5 minutes or less to request
quotes. (Some folks present information that is not quite true about themselves.
That is NOT a smart move since the quotes you'll get this way will NOT be of any
use to you)
You'll have to pick what represents the best quote for
you from the list of quotes returned. That's all there is to it. However, you
could easily save hundreds of dollars. Here are my favorite pages for home insurance quotes... |
